Branch News

Photo: Bass Group Craft Convenor Gwenda Swan with our craft display featuring articles made by our members. The craft is on display in the cabinet at CWA Headquarters, Umina, Toorak.

Congratulations to CWA Victoria for their successful bid to hold the World Women's Conference in Melbourne in 2019, a great achievement and exciting news. Our own Machelle Crichton played a key part in getting the bid, well done to all concerned.

Grantville Branch hosted a great Mystery tour in October, which included lunch at Warook Farm, a shopping spree at Aunty's Place in Lang Lang and coffee at Lang Lang Bakery, a most enjoyable day.

Branch AGMs are taking place in October and November. If you want to know what happens at CWA check out the meeting dates as shown under branches and come along.

State Creative Arts Exhibition

Bass Group did extremely well at the recent CWA State Creative Arts Exhibition held in Bendigo, taking out the first prize in the state for Home Industries. Our theme was “The Vegie Patch”
The display consisted of Grandchildren's Beetroot cut in a variety of shapes to encourage children to eat beetroot, Pumpkin Cake, Italian Vegetable Pickle, Sweet Chilli and Ginger Sauce and Tomato Relish, all in matching containers.
A number of our members won first prizes. Lyn Stebbing won the cup for the finest piece of work in the exhibition by a member of a Branch with membership of less than 60 with a finely hand quilted trapunto quilt, which also scored a green star for exceptional workmanship.

Other winners included Jayne Mitchell, Cowes, China Painting, Faye Tuchtan, Coronet Bay, Adult Knitted Jumper, Hilary Hutchings, Nyora Night Branch, Fur Fabric Bears, Abbi Cininas, Woodleigh Vale Branch, Crochet dog, Gwenda Swan, Grantville Branch, Pave and Belinda Smart, Nyora Night Branch, Handwoven Scarf.

To win these prizes at state Level shows great skill and ability, which our group members have in abundance.

Bass Group CWA Half Yearly Conference.

Our conference on August 10th at Nyora Hall was a great success.
Councillor Lorraine Brunt ,South Gippsland Council opened the conference.
Elizabeth Skidmore regaled us with anecdotes of Bass Coast History which were amusing and informative. Our group covered a lot of business including craft, catering and social issues, including the work done to prevent family violence.
Deputy State President CWA Machelle Crichton announced that CWA Victoria will make a bid to hold the 2019 World Conference in Melbourne.
